It has been a beautiful rainy/sunny spring day here in Seattle. I must say that there are few places on earth that are better suited for partaking in the beauty of creation.
I grew up in Iowa and creation takes on a different kind of beauty there that I didn't really appreciate until after the fact. When I moved to Nashville (10 years ago) I was overwhelmed by hills, trees and water. And then I moved to Seattle (5 years ago) and was overwhelmed by mountains, forests and even more water. Now when I travel back to Iowa I find myself enraptured by the plains. They just keep going. And the skies, although not as big as they are in Montana, are big.
Psalm 8 is one of the most well-known/loved creation hymns ever written. When we consider the wonder that is this world it doesn't take long to ask where and why we fit into it. Psalm 8 asks the question "Why me? Why have you given me the honor of caring for this place?" Not only did God place us at the top of the food chain but he put us in charge of it. I think the core question being asked here is "Why are we here at all?" Our quest to answer the question begins in Genesis. Start there and keep reading...
008 Glory On Display
O Lord, our Lord, your name is forever
We sing with creation this song of praise
The heavens above echo your wonder
They tell of your power now and always
From children and infants your truth is proclaimed
All of the world will know of your fame
Glory, glory everywhere
Through the earth and through the air
Glory, glory to be found
Through the sight and through the sound
The world dances this beautiful ballet
Of your glory, your glory on display
Who then are we that you should consider?
The king of the kingdom, you care for us
You gave us form just under the angels
We're made in the image of your love
The beasts of the field and the birds of the air
Follow us in this heavenly prayer
Glory, glory everywhere
Through the earth and through the air
Glory, glory to be found
Through the sight and through the sound
The world dances this beautiful ballet
Of your glory, your glory on display
Maker of the universe, Maker of the land and sea
Maker of the moon and stars, Maker of me
Glory, glory everywhere
Through the earth and through the air
Glory, glory to be found
Through the sight and through the sound
The world dances this beautiful ballet
Of your glory, your glory on display

God's creation is such a prime example of the creativity of the Creator. I love going back to visit family in Montana; it definitely lives up to its nickname of Big Sky Country. And Seattle has been so wonderful as of late! I've loved teh random rain showers, and the occasional thunder and lightning. God is awesomely cool with what He's created, and I think this song you wrote is definitely one of my favorites in how it portrays that.
Take care & God bless, Brian.
