Read Psalm 7
How can I pray this prayer? I desire justice but how can I claim this kind of righteousness. I am a broken man and it scares me to think about asking the LORD to judge me according to my righteousness and integrity (vs 8). God would not have to look far to find the error of my ways. Knowing this makes it even harder for me to say to God, "If I am guilty, go ahead and let the enemy have their way with me" (vs 4-5). This is not an easy prayer to pray.
I went back and forth a lot with this song. I was even changing lyrics in the midst of recording the vocals. But somewhere in the middle of the writing/recording process I remembered that I have been forgiven. God no longer sees me as a grossly sinful creature. In Christ, I am a new creation and I need not fear being judged according to my righteousness because I have been given the righteousness of Christ. (Read 2 Cor. 5:17-21) I am beginning to learn that whenever I struggle praying the Psalms it is helpful to remember that Jesus prayed the prayer before I did.
007 I Hide Myself In You
If I have done what they say, if I have broken the trust
Then let them ride over me and make me sleep in the dust
O Lord, let your fire descend in anger against the rage
Judge me in my righteousness, let justice out of her cage
I hide myself in you
I hide myself in you
You are my shield and my strength, your wrath brings end to the war
Your arrows light up the sky, you guard your own with the sword
Bring down the mother of sin, destroy the father of lies
See how they're digging so deep the grave of their own compromise
I hide myself in you
I hide myself in you
Only you can save, only you
I hide myself in you
