Psalm 1, the gateway into the Prayerbook, reminds us that our life depends on remaining firmly connected to the living Word of God. We are left with black/white and little gray. There is no room for tepid faith here. The words from this psalm (and Psalm 2) echo throughout the rest of the psalms and bible. The Word is the perfect law of God and the Way is Jesus Christ.
Eugene Peterson writes...
The "tree" person has roots deep in God's ways: he or she delights in them and meditates on them. The "chaff" person won't be entangled in such earthy permanence: "Too limiting," this person would probably say.
We have been given the way to freedom, but far too often we see this Word as nothing but a set of dos and don'ts. I love the image of a tree planted by streams of living water. Roots running deep into life.
Saint Augustine writes...
That tree, therefore, is our Lord, who draws those who are in the way from the running waters, that is, from the peoples who sin. By drawing them into the roots of his discipline he will bring forth fruit; that is, he will establish churches, but in due time, that is, after he has been glorified by his resurrection and ascension into heaven. Once the Holy Spirit had been sent to the apostles, and once they had been established in their faith in him and sent out to the peoples, he bore the churches as his fruit.
001 Joy Will Come To You
Joy will come to you
In the word, the way
Hold it in the night
And live it in the day
Like a tree beside
The running, living blue
Water into life
This joy will come to you
Walk away from sin
Hate has many eyes
Mocking what is goodTheir house is built on lies
Joy will come to you
In the word the way
Hold it in the night
And live it in the day
Like a tree beside
The running, living blue
Water into life
This joy will come to you
Joy will come to you

>>I am working on several different concerts right now and hope to be playing again soon. Do you have any input on local venues?<<
Sure do. I can think of a couple right off the top of my head:
~ Living:Room/Church of the Apostles : booking info on Living:Room's site (the cafe' version of COTA)
~ The Flying Lion Cafe' in West Seattle, my neck of the woods; just a bit up the hill from me actually. good venue.
~ Q Cafe out in Interbay, sort of in between Fremont and Ballard.
~ The Paradox : run by Mars Hill Church, actually. my friend Nathan (who just moved to Portland, and was involved some with COTA; Lacey Brown used to be in his band in college), his band had their final CD release party there not too long ago.
Those are the only ones I can think of immediately; I'll let you know of more as I come up with them. Let me know of any way I can be of help; I love learning more about music booking/promo stuff, as I am doing that for my buddy Ryan's band Anapra when they come out from Baltimore this summer. I've actually been meaning to talk to you about that, as I think it'd be neat for Ryan and his group to do a show with you and your group. Though Ryan and the guys can certainly be a bit stage wacky, they are a great bunch of dudes who are talented musicians with hearts for the Lord -- with crazily amusing senses of humor that are apparent during shows! They will be out in Seattle from July 25th - 31st.
Anywho, that's a lot of stuff to yap at'cha in just one post, so I'll get back to you. Take care & God bless, Brian ::
